425 LETTERS I beg you to convey my regards to the Most Illustrious Signor Dottor Balbi, as I heartily convey them to Your Reverence, and as always I remain Your Reverence’s most humble, devoted and obliged servant Giuseppe Tartini Padua, 17 August 1759 139. Tartini to the Count of Ekeblad My duty requires me to bow down again to Your Excellency and notify you that I have completed, on my part, the violin and counterpoint instruction given to Signor Andrea Westrom, 87 who in the future will need neither myself nor others, but shall only need time and quiet in order to mature on his own what he has understood perfectly; and he likewise needs a good violin, which, if it is possible to have one for twelve luigi , should be in a very decent condition. I know that Your Excellency replied to my other letter with great kindness, although to my misfortune, and that of Signor Andrea, the letters were lost. I therefore thank Your Excellency most humbly and cordially for such consideration on your part; and if your kindness should reach the highest degree to reply to this letter of mine, I shall pass on Your Excellency’s favour to Signor Andrea, who will be in Rome, where he is going, excellently recommended, in order to study there alone, with all the peace that he needs, and wherefrom he shall, in the spring, return to Padua in order to have me hear his progress before leaving again for there.
