Giuseppe Tartini - Lettere e documenti / Pisma in dokumenti / Letters and Documents - Volume / Knjiga / Volume II

413 LETTERS have no fault in this given that from the second day of the present month until the day before yesterday I was made useless for anything by a cold and fever, and today is the first day in which I feel able to write. I would have many other things to tell you, among which I must thank you for what you have done for me. But in all sincerity, I am not clear-headed, and from my pain and confusion I measure that of my Lady Patroness. I wish for the same support and consolation, and if I could give it to her with my blood, I would do so readily. Please continue to bestow your love and protection upon me, and I most respectfully remain my Patron and Lord Count’s most humble, devoted and obliged servant Giuseppe Tartini Padua, 13 April 1756 127. Tartini to G.B. Martini I am taking the liberty of duly recommending to Your Reverence the son of the bearer of the present letter, who is, and will be my student again in due time. Signor Valentino Laitech, who is the bearer, has lately been working in the leather trade, and since he is not earning enough money here in Padua to support himself and his son, he is coming there, where he is offered a much better condition than here. Consequently, given that he has to take his son with him, it is necessary to provide him with a violin teacher there who, with the same charity with which I shall teach him again in due time, will teach him clearly the fundamental principles of music, which he is lacking due to the negligence of his first teacher. I therefore beg Your Reverence with all my heart to contribute, as much as you can, to this great favour, for which you shall earn distinct merit with God, as also shall he who takes him on as his student at this time. When the young man is accomplished, we shall think about what is convenient for me, and meanwhile I ask Your Reverence to act as a generous father towards the father and the son, in accordance with your excellent Christian heart. I meanwhile convey my most cordial regards to you, and as ever remain Your Reverence’s most humble, devoted and obliged servant Giuseppe Tartini Padua, 14 June 1756
