316 Your Most Illustrious Lordship’s most humble, devoted and obliged servant Giuseppe Tartini Padua, 20 July 1747 62. Tartini to G.V. Vannetti. I am resorting to the kindness of Your Most Illustrious Lordship with regard to a peculiar concern of mine. A cavaliere , a patron of mine, to whom I owe much, commanded me to seek there in Rovereto, the following precise and secure information. What the cost is per cubit of this measure (and the measurement of the cubit is also required) of the heaviest crimson damask, and with well beaten silk. How much the perfect crimson six- pile velvet manufactured there costs. Likewise, whether floral cloths with velvet flowers, that is to say floral textured velvets, are made there and what their cost is per cubit. A sample of all that is possible would be desired, to provide for a better order, paying all that it is worth. This is all the information that the cavaliere wishes to obtain through me, as he knows that I have connections there. I know full well that I should not write to Your Most Illustrious Lordship for this purpose, but as I infinitely wish to serve this cavaliere well, I must beg Your Most Illustrious Lordship rather than others, because Your Most Illustrious Lordship is for me the only reliable person, both for the love that you condescend to bestow upon me, and for the degree of your condition and the nobleness of your soul. Please then do me this favour therefore, and conveying to you my most respectful regards, I remain as ever Your Most Illustrious Lordship’s most humble, devoted and obliged servant Giuseppe Tartini Padua, 16 May 1748 63. Tartini to G.V. Vannetti I have not yet replied to Your Most Illustrious Lordship’s most kind letter, as I was also waiting for the mentioned sample to be sent to me from Verona. But not having hitherto received it, I beg Your Most Illustrious Lordship again to do
