304 have no difficulty whatsoever in dealing with him over the printing of twelve concertos which shall be published immediately after the present print because they are already done and prepared, but that his present display indeed destroys any hope of a deal with him. That on account of Monsieur Le Cène I have continued for four whole years to sell here only in Italy the prints of the other work of mine for three filippi per copy, and I must have sold three hundred and more of them. And that, in short, it would be to debase my things to lower myself to the deal made by him. I therefore beg Your Most Illustrious Lordship for this new favour, for which in due time I shall remember my duty, while recognizing the infinite advantage in having Your Most Illustrious Lordship as a good patron, I shall certainly endeavour to preserve it in every way. Furthermore, I beg you in any case to tell me more or less how many copies could be sent to the hands of Your Most Illustrious Lordship, in due time, to be sold in those parts for 24 lira. I have reported your intentions to Monsieur Giuseppe Tartini of Padua, who has informed me that he is not completely happy; firstly he expects to grant you all possible privileges, by selling you the copies for 24 Venetian lira; secondly, payment before the delivery of the copies to the friend whom you choose; thirdly, for no fewer than 50 copies. Here then is his proposal, which I have the honour of informing you of, and of advising you to accept because the work is truly something completely in accordance with current tastes. Monsieur Tartini has also said that if his first work was well received by the public, he believes that this one will without doubt be appreciated more than the other. I have something else to propose to you, that is to say if you, dear Sir, wish to enter now into a larger contract with him, I have the authority to confirm it with you.
