300 45. G.V. Vannetti to the heirs of M.C. Le Cène [note in another hand:] Letter written to the heirs of Michel Charles Le Cène, Amsterdam Sent and written on 22 November 1744 As I was honoured by a letter of yours of 5 May of the current year in reply to one of mine, this time too I muster the courage to ask you to have delivered as soon as possible and with certainty to Monsieur F. E. de la Coste 30 of Amsterdam the letter enclosed with the present one, and try to obtain a reply, which you shall do me the favour of sending to me as soon as possible, as I have the greatest urgency thereof. Forgive me for the trouble I cause you, which depends on the fact that I have not received from the aforementioned Monsieur any reply to a letter, which I had sent him directly, which perhaps has been lost. If you deem me capable of granting you some service, I am at your complete disposal, with much esteem. Rovereto in Tyrol, 22 November 1744 [followed, after a separating line:] Letter to Signor F. E. de la Coste Amsterdam sent enclosed with the one above, etc. Sur le binne Amstel du paende straet [to one side:] Sent 22 November 1744 It was 10 May, when I took the liberty, although we do not know each other, of disturbing you by writing to you to send me the samples of the Six Sonatas by Monsieur Tartini, opera seconda , but not having hitherto received any notice concerning this, I beg you to cancel the order, as I no longer need it. The present letter has the sole purpose of informing you of an honest profit, provided that you wish to profit therefrom. Since Monsieur Giuseppe Tartini of Padua, famous violinist and a good friend of mine, has had printed in Rome twelve sonatas for violin solo, which are about to be published, he has informed me, telling me that if in Amsterdam there should be anybody willing to purchase a considerable number of copies thereof, he would sell them for a very honest price, that is to say for 24 Venetian lira per piece, as a final offer instead of the current price of 33. It is for this reason that, having been informed both through the Utrecht Gazette and by the heirs of Sir Charles Le Cène, that you have a rich catalogue of every genre of music for sale, I have wished to favour you by making the offer to you. In reply 30 In these epistolary exchanges between Rovereto and France, the name is abbreviated as “F.E.”. Nonetheless the name of Le Cène’s successor happens to be “Emmanuel-Jean”.
